As you may have heard, Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) has made the decision to close their schools tomorrow. As we are our own school district, not LAUSD, and are further from the fires that are displacing families in their district, as of tonight our school day will continue tomorrow (1/9/25) with our ongoing air safety protocols in place.

As shared earlier today, all elementary schools will continue to be on an indoor (aka “rainy-day”) schedule and secondary schools will not have any outdoor PE/Athletics during and after school. Meaning all outdoor athletic activities will be cancelled. Additionally, indoor spaces will be made available to students during snack and lunch periods.

We want to again remind families as we did in our previous email, that besides the high-quality ionization filters within all our schools’ HVAC systems, all our classrooms still have (since during the pandemic) an additional layer of an air purifier which further scrubs the air for our students and staff.

Again, there remains no direct public safety announcements made for the city of Downey and you have our commitment that we will continue to monitor the situation as it unfolds. In addition, we will stay in communication with our local first responders to make adjustments if needed throughout the night and into tomorrow.

We thank you for your continued support.
