It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Board Member Barabara R. Samperi. A vacancy has now occurred on the Board of Education for Trustee Area 7.
The Board of Education will be making a provisional appointment to fill this seat until the next regularly scheduled election, unless a special election is called in accordance with California law.
Those interested in applying to be a candidate for appointment for Trustee Area 7 MUST complete the application and candidate information sheet and submit them in person by 4:30 p.m. on October 10, 2025, to the Superintendent’s Office at the Downey Unified School District, 11627 Brookshire Ave., Downey, CA 90241.
Eligibility:
Only eligible candidates should apply
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Must be a resident of Trustee Area 7 of the Downey Unified School District (you can confirm if you live within Trustee Area 7 by clicking here to see our Trustee Area Map)
- Must be a registered voter

- Special meetings or study sessions
- School/Community events
This appointment will last until December 2026.
