Enrollment vs. Registration (Mandatory Annual Verification)

You may often hear about “enrolling” students and completing “registration” and wonder which applies to you.

1. Enrolling a student at Downey Unified only happens once.

2. Registration, or the Mandatory Annual Verification, happens every year because we must ensure that important information, such as emergency contacts, is updated.

So here is a question you should ask:
Are you new to Downey Unified or do you have a returning student?

New to Downey Unified

If you are a brand new student to the district, WELCOME!

Step 1: Beginning the process is as simple as clicking the button below and following the steps for pre-enrollment, or apply for a permit if you reside outside of the DUSD attendance area.

Step 2: After you are enrolled, you will have to provide some mandatory information during the registration period. This is done through the Parent Connect Portal. Parent Connect login information will be sent to you via email.

Returning Students

If you have a returning student, you don’t need to enroll again but you DO need to verify your information.

During the summer enrollment period (July 1 through early August), log on to your Parent Connect Portal to complete or update the Mandatory Annual Information Verification and forms for each student. These forms should be completed before the start of school.

2026-27 DUSD Annual Verification

Mandatory Annual Verification for this school year opens July 1.

If you have any questions before the help line opens, please call your school’s front office for more information.

It is mandatory that all parents verify the information annually for their student(s) using the Parent Connection Portal at https://parentconnection.dusd.net/

A Parent Connection account is required to provide information. If you cannot remember your password, you will be able to reset your password by clicking the link, “Need Your Login Information?”

Parents of newly enrolled students who have not yet received the account information, your log-in and temporary password will be sent to you via email from our Student Information System “Q”.

Student Accident & Sickness Insurance

Even though we take precautions to protect your child from injuries, accidents can and do happen while students are participating in school activities on campus, on school trips, and during extra-curricular activities and sports.

Although DUSD does not carry medical or dental insurance for your child, a variety of low-cost medical/dental insurance plans are available through Myers-Stevens & Toohey & Co., Inc.
