CTE Pathways: Transportation

The transportation industry continues to change as new technology is introduced. Our transportation pathways advance students’ skills in automotive mechanics and diagnostics. From servicing traditional vehicles to electric, students will feel well-equipped to enter the transportation industry.

Alternative Fuels

Students will explore the systems that makeup vehicles, the energy that requires them to run, and how to maintain and service these machines.

Courses

YEAR 1: Automotive Electrical, Energy, and Transportation Systems
Course Description
In this course, students will learn about basic electricity and automotive electrical systems, including battery starting and charging systems, electrical circuits and computer systems. Students will explore all aspects of current and future energy development systems, as well as how energy is procured, distributed, stored and used.

This course meets the University of California G-Elective requirements.

YEAR 2: Automotive Steering, Suspension, And High Voltage Vehicles Capstone
Course Description
This theory and practice course focuses on steering, suspension, and wheel alignment, including operating principles, component description, diagnosis, and service. Alignment instruction includes electronic four-wheel alignment. The course introduces high voltage vehicles. Topics include advanced technology vehicles such as hybrid electric vehicles (HEV), and battery electric vehicles (BEV).

This Capstone course prepares students to work in industries utilizing electric vehicles and additional or future systems in the automotive and advanced transportation sectors. Students also prepare for industry certifications and postsecondary education.
