CTE Pathways: Education, Child Development, & Family Services
A career in education awaits. While gaining real-world experience, students can earn college credit through dual enrollment with Cerritos College and partner California State University Long Beach. The program speeds up the time it takes to become a teacher: six years of education (four of which are free).
Education Pathway
This pathway consists of two, year-long courses that build a fundamental understanding of teaching methods and techniques.
Courses
YEAR 1: Careers in Education
Course Description
This course will prepare students for careers working with prekindergarten through 12th grade students. Over the course of the year, students will study human development, education standards and regulations, positive guidance techniques, age-appropriate learning strategies and curriculum design. At the end of the course, students will have the opportunity to earn a First Aid/CPR certification.
YEAR 2: Principles in Education
Course Description
As the capstone course, Principles in Education sends students out into the field, working with teachers and students at the elementary, middle school and/or high school. The course also covers effective classroom instruction, technology in education, special needs, inclusion and diversity, health and career exploration. Students will end the year with a digital personal portfolio and a resume.
