Top Teacher Tip

Advice shared by Mr. Evans, Ms. Curiel, Mr. Houts, and Mr. Zakour to encourage student engagement and growth.

Counselor and Teacher Messages

Mr. Evans:
It is never too early to start volunteer or community service hours. While Downey High School does not require these hours for graduation, students are recognized for completing them. Volunteer experience is also helpful for college applications and first job applications.

Ms. Curiel:
Quote: “The capacity to learn is a gift; the ability to learn is a skill; the willingness to learn is a choice.” — Brian Herbert
Make it a great day, Vikings. The choice is yours.

Mr. Houts:
Get involved. Don’t be a wallflower — be a wildflower.

Mr. Zakour:
Quote: “Let everything happen to you: beauty and terror. Just keep going! No feeling is final.” — Rainer Maria Rilke
