The Global Language Academies of Downey (G.L.A.D.) is now enrolling! The 2023-24 G.L.A.D application window for next school year is now open for registration! Enrollment for Transitional Kindergarten (TK) and Kindergarten (K) with the Dual Language Immersion Program is open now through January 31, 2023.
The Benefits of Learning a Second Language
Our Dual Language Program has been a success at teaching students the cross-cultural skills needed to be college and career-ready in a global economy. Knowing more than one language will help your child stand out on their future job applications and opens up opportunities for them to engage with and learn from other cultures.
In addition to career benefits, learning a second language improves one’s memory, multi-tasking skills, creativity, and brain function. Young dual language learners have even been found to have more empathy than their peers.
Whether your child is enrolled in Spanish or French, they will reap the benefits of being multilingual for years to come. As dual language speakers, they’ll have more opportunities to work in our global economy, to more comfortably travel and converse with others beyond the English-speaking parts of the world, and will have broadened their minds. Not to mention, as they master a second language, they’ll improve their confidence.

If your child will be 5 years old by April 2, 2024*, please visit our website to apply for the program.
Families of students that speak the target language (Spanish) who are interested in applying for the Spanish Dual Language pathway at either Carpenter or Imperial elementary schools, may also apply for grades higher than Kindergarten. Although space is limited in these grade levels, all applications will be considered.
*Currently under review for possible extension to June 30, 2024.
Mandatory Informational Meetings
As a part of the application process, you must attend one of our mandatory informational meetings via Zoom. Translation of the meeting will be available.
Meetings will be held starting in November and go throughout January. Visit our website to RSVP for a date and time that is convenient for you.
