After four years of focused planning, professional learning, and collaboration, Sussman Middle School has been officially designated an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School for the Middle Years Programme (MYP)—a significant milestone that reflects the school’s commitment to high-quality teaching and learning.

The designation follows a successful IB authorization visit in December, during which evaluators praised Sussman’s strong instructional practices, positive school culture, and collaborative learning environment. The school received its official authorization in record time, an exceptional acknowledgment of the depth of preparation and dedication demonstrated by staff and leadership.

“Becoming an IB World School reflects the serious work happening every day at Sussman Middle School,” said Board President Rodriguez. “This designation confirms that students are receiving instruction that meets internationally recognized standards and prepares them with the academic and problem-solving skills they need to succeed in high school, college, and the workforce.”

The IB Middle Years Programme is designed to develop inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring students who are prepared to be lifelong learners and global citizens. Through rigorous, real-world learning experiences, students build critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving skills. At Sussman, students have already showcased their learning by designing sustainable cities, engineering structures, and creating artwork that has been featured at the Autry Museum.

This achievement reflects Sussman’s strong leadership, along with the commitment of Sussman’s dedicated IB teaching team. Together, they work tirelessly to provide high-quality, inquiry-based learning experiences for students each day. Teachers are highly trained in IB instructional practices and are deeply committed to continuous professional growth to ensure students receive engaging, meaningful, and challenging instruction.

I could not be more proud of our teachers and staff for the dedication they showed throughout this process,” said Principal Quintero. “They embraced the challenge, supported one another, and never lost sight of what matters most… our students. This achievement belongs to them and our entire Pioneer community.”

Currently, Sussman Middle School serves approximately 425 IB MYP students in grades 6–8, offering an academically rigorous program that supports both academic success and personal development.

Applications for the 2026-27 IB MYP school year for incoming sixth-grade students will be available beginning Jan. 29 through Feb. 27, 2026. Families interested in learning more about the program and the application process are encouraged to attend the upcoming IB Information Night at Sussman Middle School on Jan. 29 at 6 p.m., where staff will share details about curriculum, student experiences, and enrollment procedures.

Sussman Middle School is proud to join the global network of IB World Schools and looks forward to continuing this important work in preparing students to thrive as learners, leaders, and global citizens.
