This summer, Downey Unified’s Work Experience Program hired 194 high school juniors to participate in our annual summer program!
Now in its 9th year, this career readiness initiative has placed hundreds of our talented and driven students in paid work opportunities to grow and expand their professional experiences in high-demand and sought after industry sectors. Our student apprentices are able to work with experts in fields such as Engineering; Information and Communication Technologies; Arts, Media & Entertainment; Biotech; and Business & Entrepreneurship!
Every apprentice works directly with industry mentors in an industry-specific Deep Dive and will then showcase their work publicly at the culmination of their apprenticeship in late July.
In addition to workplace experience, skills-based trainings are also a part of the apprenticeship program which includes some of the following:
- Microsoft 365 Training
- Introduction to LinkedIn
- Financial Literacy 101: Everything You Need to Know About Banking
- Planning Your Financial Future (Building a Personal Budget)
- Resume Updates and LinkedIn Optimization
We thank our partners the Bayha Group and all our participating professionals in helping to shape the workforce of tomorrow, one apprentice at a time!
