Downey Unified School District is proud to announce that a record 449 students from Downey and Warren high schools have been recognized as AP Scholars for their outstanding performance on last May’s Advanced Placement (AP) exams. This is the largest number of students in district history to achieve this distinction.

At Downey High School, 258 students earned AP Scholar status, including 122 juniors and five sophomores, marking the school’s highest number of honorees to date.

At Warren High School, 191 students were named AP Scholars. In addition, five students earned the AP Capstone Diploma—a rigorous honor that demonstrates advanced college-level academic and research skills—and two students received the AP Seminar and Research Certificate.

The AP Scholar recognition highlights students who have not only excelled in college-level coursework while in high school but are also better prepared for success in higher education. AP Scholars often earn college credit, strengthen their applications for admission, and demonstrate the ability to thrive in challenging academic environments.

“These results showcase the exceptional dedication of our students and the strength of our AP programs across the district,” said Superintendent Dr. Roger Brossmer. “We are proud to see our students take on these challenges and achieve at such a high level.”
