Robert was a member of the first graduation class of Warren High School in 1959. He attended Pomona College and transferred to the University of Wisconsin, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology in1964. Robert completed his Master’s and Doctorate degrees in Physiology and Biochemistry at the University of South Dakota in 1970. He received his Doctor of Medicine degree in 1972 from Temple University of Philadelphia and completed his residency and fellowship in Gastroenterology at Scott and White Memorial Hospital in Temple, Texas in 1977.
In 1977, he joined the faculty of the University of South Dakota School of Medicine. During his tenure, he served as a Professor, Dean of Continuing Medical Education, Dean of Academic Affairs, and served as Program Director for the Transitional Year Residency. He was a gastroenterologist in private practice until he passed away. He was posthumously awarded the Distinguished Service Award from the Alliance for Continuing Medical Education in January 2006. As a strong supporter of Sioux Falls community activities, he served on many boards of directors in the area.
