2026 results show substantial growth across student groups and readiness rates above nearby district averages.

Warren High School students are reaching new levels of preparation for life after graduation. In 2026, Warren’s college and career readiness rate climbed to 74%, up from 64.8% the previous year, earning Blue, the highest performance level on the California School Dashboard. These results were recently applauded by California Governor Gavin Newsom as he visited Downey Unified as a statewide leader of student achievement and equity. Newsom announced statewide results and celebrated Downey Unified’s success the day the dashboard results were released.

That 9 percentage-point gain places Warren 18 percentage points above the statewide rate of 55% and ahead of the districtwide averages in several surrounding communities. Alongside a 98% four-year graduation rate, these results give Warren families much to celebrate.

For students and families, this milestone means preparation that can translate into choices after graduation. The state’s readiness measure recognizes accomplishments through academic and career pathways, including advanced coursework, college credit, and career preparation. This achievement reflects the value of the school’s diverse educational pathways, including Career Technical Education (CTE), Advanced Placement (AP), and Dual Enrollment (DE) in partnership with Cerritos College.

Through our 18 CTE programs, students gain practical skills and explore career fields. Our 27 AP courses challenge students with college-level academic work, while over 45 dual enrollment sections give students opportunities to earn college credit while still in high school. Together, these programs help students build confidence and develop valuable skills for future careers. We are preparing students for their tomorrow, today.

Meaningful Growth Across Student Groups

A central focus of Warren’s work is ensuring that student background does not determine student outcomes. The school’s continued emphasis on improving outcomes for Black, Latino, and socioeconomically disadvantaged students reflects a commitment to educational equity and the belief that every student deserves access to high-quality instruction, academic support, and opportunities to excel.

Closing achievement gaps requires intentional collaboration among teachers, support staff, administrators, students, and families. Through this shared commitment, we continue working to strengthen academic achievement and create pathways for all students to reach their full potential.

Some of Warren’s most significant gains show how widely this progress is reaching.

College and Career Readiness is at an all-time high for Warren at 74%; while the California state average is 55%

  • Black students: 75% prepared, an increase of 32 percentage points; state average is 41%
  • Latino students: 74% prepared, an increase of 9 percentage points; state average is 50%
  • Socioeconomically disadvantaged students: 71% prepared, an increase of 8 percentage points; state average 49%
  • English learners: 44.3% prepared, an increase of 11 percentage points; state average 29%
  • Homeless & Foster Youth: 64% prepared, an increase of 23 percentage points; state average is 31%
  • Students with disabilities: 44% prepared, an increase of 29 percentage points; state average is 24%

These gains show why Warren’s focus on every student matters. Looking closely at outcomes across student groups helps us recognize achievement, identify remaining barriers, and direct support where students need it. Our commitment is to keep expanding access and help students build on their strengths.

Graduating With More Options

Warren’s success extends to graduation and university preparation. 77.2% of Warren graduates completed A–G requirements, the courses needed for admission consideration at University of California (UC) and California State University (CSU) campuses. That compares with 54.8% statewide, a lead of 22.4 percentage points.

Warren’s 98.3% four-year graduation rate also stands 10.4 percentage points above California’s 87.9%. These milestones represent students completing high school with academic accomplishments that can support their next steps.

Through Advanced Placement (AP), Dual Enrollment, and Career Technical Education (CTE), Warren students can challenge themselves academically, earn college credit while in high school, and explore careers through practical learning. These opportunities help students connect their work today with goals for tomorrow.

A Shared Commitment to Every Bear

These accomplishments reflect the collective efforts of Warren’s students, teachers, counselors, support staff, administrators, families, and community partners. Their dedication helps create an environment where students are encouraged to challenge themselves, discover their strengths, and pursue ambitious goals.

While the California School Dashboard offers valuable measures of school performance, Warren recognizes that behind every data point is a student with individual strengths, aspirations, and potential.

As we look ahead, we remain focused on building upon this progress by closing remaining achievement gaps and expanding access to the academic and career opportunities that prepare students for life beyond high school.

At Warren, student success means more than earning a diploma. It means ensuring students have access to rigorous coursework, meaningful learning experiences, and the skills and opportunities needed to pursue their goals after graduation.
