Warren High School has been named a recipient of the 2025 California Exemplary Dual Enrollment Award, a prestigious statewide honor recognizing schools that demonstrate excellence in expanding access to college coursework, supporting student success, and advancing equity in education.
This recognition places Warren among an elite group of schools across California. In Los Angeles County, Warren is one of only five comprehensive high schools to receive the award, and statewide, one of just seventeen comprehensive high schools to earn this distinction. Among those recipients, Warren High School is the largest comprehensive high school in the state of California to be honored, highlighting both the scale and impact of its dual enrollment program.
The California Exemplary Dual Enrollment Award is granted for a two‑year period, recognizing sustained, high-quality implementation of dual enrollment programs. For Warren, the designation reflects not a single achievement, but a continued commitment to creating meaningful college opportunities for students.
Bringing College to Campus
Warren’s dual enrollment program allows students to enroll in real college courses while still in high school through a strong and trusted partnership with Cerritos College. These courses are taught by college‑qualified instructors, including Warren teachers who meet Cerritos College faculty requirements, allowing students to experience college‑level expectations within a supportive high school environment.
Each year, more than 500 Warren students across multiple grade levels participate in at least one dual enrollment course. Participation continues to grow, with students beginning college coursework as early as the summer before ninth grade.
Looking ahead, interest in dual enrollment has reached an unprecedented level. For the upcoming Spring and Fall 2026 terms, over 1,000 students have already signed up to take college classes on the Warren High School campus, reflecting both student enthusiasm and confidence in the program.
Cal‑GETC Pathways and Purposeful Course Design
A cornerstone of the program is its alignment with the Cal‑GETC certification pathway. Warren students intentionally enroll in college courses that fulfill both high school A-G requirements and college transfer requirements at the same time.
Through this structure, students are able to:
- Earn transferable college credit
- Make progress toward Cal‑GETC certification
- Stay on track for graduation
- Save time and money in college
- Build early confidence as college scholars
This intentional course sequencing ensures that college access is not just available, but meaningful and efficient.
Dual Enrollment for Everyone
What truly distinguishes Warren’s program is its belief that dual enrollment is for everybody.
The program is designed to be inclusive and accessible, serving students across all backgrounds, interests, and postsecondary goals. By embedding courses into the school day, removing cost barriers, and providing comprehensive academic support, Warren ensures that every student has the opportunity to see themselves as capable of college success.
Students are supported by counselors, teachers, and Dual Enrollment support staff who help guide scheduling, monitor progress, and provide encouragement throughout the college course experience.
A Partnership Built on Trust
Warren’s success in dual enrollment is made possible through its strong partnership with Cerritos College. This collaborative relationship is grounded in trust, alignment, and a shared belief that Warren students are fully capable of succeeding in college‑level coursework.
Together, Warren and Cerritos College work to ensure courses are rigorous, transferable, and supported, creating a seamless bridge between high school and higher education.
Gratitude to the Warren Community
This achievement reflects the collective efforts of many.
Warren High School extends sincere gratitude to:
- School counselors, who dedicate countless hours to student planning and scheduling
- Teachers, who have taken on the role of Cerritos College professors and bring college learning directly to campus
- Our Dual Enrollment Team, whose daily work ensures students feel supported and prepared
- Cerritos College, for its partnership and continued trust
- The Downey Unified Board of Education and Superintendent Dr. Roger Brossmer, for ongoing leadership and support
- And most importantly, Warren families and students, whose trust, commitment, and belief in this work make the program possible
