The WHS Bearristers’ Law Society is a women based student organization dedicated to promoting diversity, inclusivity, and empowerment within the legal profession. Originally founded as a co-ed club, the Bearristers have since evolved into an all-female organization made up of 10 committed members, making it one of the few woman-centered advocacy clubs on campus. Our mission is simple yet powerful: to encourage, educate, and empower female high school students who are interested in pursuing careers in law and other professional fields.

The Bearristers meet weekly every Thursday, providing a space for meaningful discussion, collaboration, and growth. During meetings, members engage in conversations about current global issues, social justice, and programs that promote inclusivity and representation in the legal field. These discussions allow students to broaden their perspectives while building confidence in their voices and opinions.
One of the society’s most impactful initiatives is the Women in Law Workshop, created and organized by former president and WHS graduate Jennifer Ramirez. She highlighted a striking statistic: approximately 84 percent of practicing lawyers are Caucasian males. The workshop was designed to shed light on the lack of representation of underrepresented groups in modern law and politics. This reality underscores the importance of creating opportunities and support systems for women and minorities interested in entering the legal and political landscape.

To address this imbalance, the Bearristers’ Law Society focuses on fostering a supportive environment where students feel encouraged to pursue ambitious goals. Both former and current boards strive to inspire members by showcasing successful minorities across various professional fields. By highlighting these role models, the club ensures students feel seen, supported, and reminded that they are not alone in their aspirations.
While law remains a central focus of the Women in Law Workshop, participation is not limited to students who plan to become attorneys. Any female student with aspirations of pursuing a full-time professional career is welcome. The workshop provides attendees with the opportunity to connect with experienced professionals, gain valuable life insights, and hear powerful stories of perseverance, balance, and success. Students left with not only professional guidance, but also a sense of belonging and motivation fueled by the experiences shared.

The impact of the Women in Law Workshop was lasting and deeply meaningful. Students were especially inspired by the passion and genuine love the attorneys expressed for their careers. Despite the small group size, each speaker addressed a wide range of topics that directly aligned with students’ questions and interests. The workshop concluded with a reflective discussion focused on identifying personal strengths, encouraging students to recognize their own potential.
The energy in the room was one of curiosity, enthusiasm, and empowerment. Students arrived eager to learn and left feeling motivated by the knowledge and authenticity of the attorneys who shared their journeys.
