Local Control & Accountability Plan (LCAP)

The Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) is a crucial component of California’s school funding model, the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF). The LCFF restructures school financing to increase resources for improving student achievement across the state.

The LCAP serves as a strategic plan that each California school district must develop to allocate the additional funds provided by the LCFF. It outlines the district’s needs, specific goals, target student groups, metrics to track progress, and alignment with State and local priorities. School districts must prepare and have their LCAPs approved by the local School Board by the end of June each year.

In the Downey Unified School District, the LCAP includes clearly defined needs, goals for specific student populations, measurable outcomes, and detailed actions and budgets connected to each goal, ensuring accountability and alignment with broader educational priorities.
