Army JROTC Cadet Leadership Challenge or JCLC is the “crowning jewel” of the program. Each year, select cadets from multiple programs gather at a designated site to put their leadership skills into practice. At the same time, they challenge themselves mentally and physically, learn new skills, meet new cadets, and have FUN!
This year was the Bear Battalion’s first JCLC. Twenty cadets attended camp at the Irvine Exploration Center at Irvine Regional Park. For several cadets, it was their first time away from home! Other participating JROTCs were from Garey HS, Pomona HS, and Ganesha HS. Cadets bunked in separate cabins for boys and girls. They ate as a group in the chow hall and participated with their schools in a two-day round-robin style training schedule. Events included a zip line, team building exercises, low cope, and high cope courses, wall climbing and rappelling, an arduous eco-hike, and a free swim. Cadets who attempt all events “graduate” from camp and receive certificates, ribbons, and decorations to be worn on their uniforms.
I am so incredibly proud of the Warren cadets’ performance at camp. They demonstrated motivation, excellent behavior, courage, and the potential to do anything they set about to do!
