Dr. Mary Stauffer Career College Scholarship
The Dr. Mary Stauffer Career College Scholarship is a full tuition award (not to exceed
California Residency Tuition) to any community college or career/trade college or an adult
school certificate program. Students applying for the California College Promise Grant may
still apply and qualify for the Dr. Stauffer Scholarship.
Recipients will receive $625.00 per semester for four semesters. The money may be used
for any educational expense that is incurred (including textbooks, lab fees, parking permits
and/or gas to commute to and from college).
To qualify, applicants must have a 2.5 (or higher) GPA and plan to attend a community
college, career/trade college or an adult school certificate program full time directly after
graduation. The grant is renewable each semester, for a total of four semesters and
$2,500.00, and must be used within the first four years after graduating high school. To
renew the scholarship, students must maintain a 2.5 GPA and enroll in at least twelve (12)
units each semester.
Applications are available on the DHS Website under either the Counselor or College and
Career Center tab. Application process:
- Download the application and save it as a PDF.
- Complete the application and save it as a new document (Word or Google Doc or PDF).
- Email your counselor requesting he/she complete the Counselor Section and then
return the completed application to you. Be sure to attach your application to the
email request so that your counselor may open it and respond. - Complete the required essay and save as a separate document.
- Secure a copy of your Transcript by accessing Q → Student Documents → Transcript
and save it as a PDF or screen shot. - Email all three completed documents (Application (with your counselor’s comments),
Transcript and Essay) as attachments to Mrs. Carlson at ccarlson@dusd.net by 3:15

Deadline to request your counselor complete the comment section is Friday, February 16, 2024. Deadline to submit the completed application, essay and copy of your transcript to Mrs. Carlson is Wednesday, February 21, 2024.

$15,000 California Lutheran University Scholarship: Application 2024
Qualifications: minimum 3.5 GPA, graduating senior (or equivalent) at a school located in Downey, CA.
$15,000 renewable up to 4 years, must maintain 10 units minimum with 3.5 GPA minimum.
Applications are available on the DHS Website under either the Counselor or College and
Career Center tab. Application process:
- Download the application and save it as a PDF.
- Complete the application and print.
- Request a referral from a counselor or teacher. Be sure to attach your application.
- Complete the required essay and save as a separate document.
- Secure a copy of your Transcript by accessing Q → Student Documents → Transcript
