Dr. Xochitl Winner ACSA

A Prestigious Honor at the Statewide Level

Each year, ACSA recognizes outstanding school leaders whose work has a meaningful and lasting impact on students, staff, and school communities. While the selection process begins at the regional level, Dr. Ortiz’s recognition advanced to the highest possible tier.

She was selected as the sole state honoree among administrators from all 19 ACSA regions across California, representing more than 1,000 school districts statewide. This rare distinction places her among an elite group of educational leaders and reflects the deep respect of her peers from across the state.

Leading with Purpose and Impact

As the State Continuation / Educational Options Administrator of the Year, Dr. Ortiz is recognized for her exceptional work in expanding high-quality educational pathways. Her leadership at Columbus High School focuses on:

  • Student Engagement & Persistence: Creating environments where students feel seen and supported.
  • Diverse Learning Needs: Implementing rigorous programs that honor individual student strengths.
  • Post-Secondary Success: Promoting meaningful opportunities for students beyond high school graduation.

Dr. Ortiz’s statewide recognition builds on Downey Unified’s history of excellence, mirroring Superintendent Dr. Roger Brossmer’s own advancement to statewide honors in 2022. Her achievement not only celebrates her individual dedication but also elevates the impact of Downey Unified on a statewide stage.

A Message from District Leadership

“This recognition is truly extraordinary and speaks to the caliber of leadership Dr. Ortiz brings to our district,” said Superintendent Dr. Roger Brossmer. “Earning statewide honors is a powerful affirmation of her dedication to our students and our belief that Our Kids Deserve the Best.

Dr. Ortiz will be formally recognized by ACSA at upcoming regional and statewide celebrations for her commitment to educational excellence.
