You may not realize how much regular school attendance benefits students, but it can be a strong indicator of future academic achievement and lays a strong foundation for students’ social skills and responsibility.

Higher Academic Achievement

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the most significant benefit of regularly attending school is tied to academic achievement. Students who regularly attend school are known to achieve at higher levels than students who do not attend regularly, according to the National Center for Education Statistics. This is due to how each school lesson builds upon the previous one throughout the year. With each lesson missed, it becomes more and more challenging for students to catch up and fill their knowledge gaps. A student’s presence in class is vital to their educational success and each future lesson and test.

Developing Good Habits & Building a Routine

Routines are important for children and provide stability. Not only does the classroom structure provide a routine, but so does the process of attending school: waking up early, getting ready for the day, and being punctual. Building these habits at a young age allows students to develop essential life skills that will follow them into college and the workforce.

By keeping your child on a consistent routine, you’ll teach them time management, discipline, and the importance of meeting their commitments. A student’s presence is just one building block to a lifetime of responsible habits.

Growing Relationships & Social Skills

Each day at school is another day for students to develop their social skills as they interact with their classmates and teachers. These interactions teach them how to communicate with others, resolve conflicts, and build their relationships. Being a part of the school community also provides students with a secondary support system and helps them foster a sense of belonging and purpose. A student’s presence helps them develop who they are while growing key skills such as empathy and emotional intelligence.

Exposure to English Language for ELL Students

Regular attendance is particularly important for English Language Learner (ELL) students. Immersing themselves in an English-speaking environment helps them improve their language skills more quickly. Their attendance allows them to practice speaking, listening, reading, and writing in English daily. Their presence accelerates their journey to English fluency.

Attendance Challenges

We know there may be unforeseen circumstances that may occasionally keep students from class, such as illness or family emergencies. These are to be expected, and our teachers will always work with our students to help them get caught up.
