It’s on the strength of observation and reflection that one finds a way. So we must dig and delve unceasingly.

– Claude Monet
Reflective people give thoughtful consideration to their learning and experience. They are able to assess and understand their strengths and limitations in order to support their learning and personal development. It is essential for a student to think (What do I see others doing around me?), reflect (What can I do differently? How can I achieve that?), and grow (How can I be the best me?).

As learners, we strive to:

  • Consider the world, our own ideas, and our experiences thoughtfully
  • Understand our strengths and weaknesses in order to support our learning and personal development

Reflection is a key component of IB learning. The learning process is not complete without reflecting on what is learned and understanding how that applies to us, our lives, and the lives of others. Students who are reflective understand their strengths, but they also understand their weaknesses and can focus and how to make changes where they can.
