IB MYP students use student voice and choice to collaborate and create a unique civilization representing their knowledge of resources and the needs of a society. Students received the following directions, and from there went on to create exciting projects.
Statement of inquiry: Change and modernization in a civilization occurs with the availability of resources.
Goal: To design a city-state within the Mesopotamia region.
Role: Your role is a city planner/engineer.
Audience: Your audience is Hammurabi and the Royal Palace members.
Situation: The situation is that you have been tasked by King Hammurabi to design a new city using resources available in the area. As the planner, you must explain the effect on your civilization’s development and the connection between change and modernization.
Product: You will create a model (2D, 3D, digital, etc.) of your city-state and must present it to the king and the royal palace members.
