Science

Science classes at Doty Middle School will engage students using an inquiry-based science curriculum aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). The major domains of earth science, life science, physical science, engineering, and human impact are taught in every grade level. This integrated model builds understanding in all disciplines so that prior knowledge is connected to and applied in each subsequent year.

6th Grade

Cells and Body Systems, Weather and Climate, Genetics and Organism Adaptations, Human Impact on the Earth

7th Grade

Structure and Properties of Matter, Chemical Reactions, Cycling of Matter and Energy, Earth’s Resources, Earth Processes, Ecosystem Interactions, Human Impact on the Earth

8th Grade

Forces and Motion, Fossils and Mass Extinction, Evolution and Natural Selection, Human Impact on the Earth

At the end of 8th grade, students will be assessed on all three years of their learning through the California Science Test (CAST), which is an online assessment based on NGSS.
