Have you heard of Downey Unified’s Musical Theatre Conservatory?
It is not your typical drama class or club. It is a program that brings students from all four of Downey’s middle schools for a higher level of performance. The students meet five days a week, two hours a day for various focuses, from voice training to dance class to actual rehearsals, culminating in a production for the fall and spring. While the program is free, students must audition with a monologue and song.
The Music Theatre Conservatory (MTC) meets at Stauffer from Monday through Friday, 3:15 – 5:15 p.m. Students who do not attend Stauffer are responsible for transportation to and from campus.
If you have a future Downey Unified middle schooler who is passionate about singing, dancing, and acting, this might be a great program for them.
We will host a Parent Information meeting on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at 5:00 pm at the Stauffer cafeteria.
If you have any questions, feel free to email the MTC Director, Andrea Pyle at apyle@dusd.net or visit our website for more information: web.dusd.net/musical-theatre
