After four years of dedicated planning, training, and collaboration, Sussman Middle School is proud to announce that we have officially been designated an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School for the Middle Years Programme (MYP). This designation places Sussman among a prestigious global network of schools committed to high-quality, internationally recognized education.

Our designation follows a successful IB authorization visit in December, during which evaluators commended Sussman’s strong instructional practices, positive school culture, and highly collaborative learning environment. Receiving IB authorization in record time is an exceptional recognition of the quality of our program and the collective commitment of our students, staff, and families.
The IB Middle Years Programme is designed to develop inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring students who are prepared to be lifelong learners and engaged global citizens. Through rigorous, real-world learning experiences, students build critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving skills. At Sussman, our students have demonstrated their learning by designing sustainable cities, engineering structures, and creating artwork that has been featured at the Autry Museum.
“Becoming an IB World School reflects the serious work happening every day at Sussman Middle School,” said Board President Jose Rodriguez. “This designation confirms that students are receiving instruction that meets internationally recognized standards and prepares them with the academic and problem-solving skills they need to succeed in high school, college, and the workforce.”
This achievement reflects the strength of Sussman’s leadership and the dedication of our IB teaching team. Our teachers are highly trained in IB instructional practices and are deeply committed to continuous professional growth, ensuring that students experience engaging, meaningful, and challenging instruction every day.
“I could not be more proud of our teachers and staff for the dedication they showed throughout this process,” said our principal, Dr. Quintero. “They embraced the challenge, supported one another, and never lost sight of what matters most—our students. This achievement belongs to them and our entire Pioneer community.”
Currently, Sussman Middle School serves approximately 425 IB MYP students in grades 6, 7, and 8, offering an academically rigorous program that supports both personal development and academic success.
Applications for the 2026–27 IB MYP school year for incoming sixth-grade students will be available from January 29 through February 27, 2026.
