About Warren Band
Our Mission
The Warren Instrumental Music Department seeks to use music to develop students of character and competence in an environment of Perseverance, Respect, Integrity, Discipline, and Excellence.
The Warren Instrumental Music Department provides students the ability to flourish in an environment that supports musical excellence and artistic integrity. Warren Band and Colorguard students experience a unique blend of academic rigor, experiential learning, and personal support. The inherent confidence that springs from such an education results in relevant and meaningful performance and service opportunities.
About Raymundo Vizcarra
Raymundo Vizcarra is an accomplished performer, educator, and music program leader with a proven record of building award-winning ensembles and inspiring students to achieve their full potential through music. He is the current Director of Instrumental Music at Warren High School, where he has made an immediate impact—leading the program to win sweepstakes at its very first competition of the season.
Raymundo is also a professor at El Camino College, where he directs the Symphonic Band, working with musicians of varying levels to achieve high-level performances in concert settings.
With a career spanning over two decades, Raymundo holds a Master of Music Education degree from Michigan State University and is currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts in Trombone Performance at the University of Southern California. He is a proud alumnus of California State University, Fresno, where he earned both his B.A. in Music Education and Single Subject Teaching Credential.
He is a recognized leader in music education organizations, including the National Band Association, California Music Educators Association, and Southern California Band and Orchestra Association, and has been honored with awards such as the National Band Association Merit Award for Marching Excellence for his outstanding contributions to music education.
Throughout his career, Raymundo has developed and revitalized music programs at schools across Southern California, consistently growing student participation, improving performance standards, and achieving recognition at the regional and state levels. His ensembles have performed at world-renowned venues, including Carnegie Hall, and his teaching has helped students gain a lifelong appreciation for music, with many continuing on to higher education and professional careers.
As a professional trombonist, Raymundo has performed at iconic venues such as the Shrine Auditorium, Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, Hollywood Bowl, and Walt Disney Concert Hall. He has shared the stage with legendary artists and entertainers including Andy Rooney, June Lockhart, Richard Sherman, and Betty White. His performance credits include the USC Thornton Symphony Orchestra, LA Lawyers Philharmonic, Golden State Pops Orchestra, and numerous jazz and Latin ensembles.
Raymundo is bilingual in English and Spanish, with a basic familiarity in various additional languages. He is an active member of several professional organizations, including the California Music Educators Association, National Association for Music Education, International Trombone Association, and Southern California Band and Orchestra Association.
Raymundo Vizcarra is passionate about using music as a vehicle for leadership, discipline, and creativity, and is proud to serve the Warren High School community.
