Summer may still be in full swing, but we’re already getting excited to welcome our students back for the 2025–26 school year! Whether your child is brand new to Downey Unified or returning for another great year, here are a few important dates and tips to help your family get prepared.
Important Back-to-School Dates
🏫 School Offices Reopen
Starting Wednesday, August 6, 2025, school offices will be open for in-person assistance during regular hours. If you need help with forms, have questions, or just want to double-check details before the first day. Your school’s office team is ready to help!
📝 Annual Verification (formerly Registration)
Don’t forget—Annual Verification is open and must be completed before school starts. This ensures all your and your child’s info is accurate and up to date. See a full list of forms and information at https://web.dusd.net/back-to-school/
You can complete this Verification process through your Parent Connect Portal or on Parent Connect at https://parentconnection.dusd.net/
If you need assistance with your Annual Verification before your school’s office opens, the district’s Help Line is open now through August 7th. Call (562) 469-6800 or stop by our district office in person.
🎉 First Day of School
Mark your calendars!
The first day of school is Wednesday, August 13, 2025.
Tips to Prepare Your Child for the School Year
- Start easing back into a routine.
Gradually adjust sleep and wake-up times a couple weeks before school starts to help your child feel rested and ready. - Talk about the new school year.
Whether it’s their first time at a new school or just a new grade, having open conversations about what to expect can ease back-to-school jitters. - Get those school supplies ready!
Check your school’s supply list on the Parent-Resources page of your school’s website and shop early for essentials like notebooks, pencils, and backpacks. - Update emergency contacts.
Make sure your contact info and emergency contacts are correct in Parent Connect during your Annual Verification so the school and district office can reach you if needed. - Plan a practice run.
Walk or drive the route to school, especially if your child is attending a new campus, so it feels familiar on day one.
We are looking forward to seeing you soon!
