True Lasting Connections ensures that each student receives the physical, emotional, and intellectual support they need.
Our services help Downey Unified students and their families learn to become better participants in their school and the larger community.
Our services include:

- Students In Crisis
- Parenting Support / Classes
- Mental Health Services
- Grief Support Groups
- Emergency Basic Needs: Food, Clothing, Hygiene
- Referral Services/Connect families to outside agencies
- Low-Cost Health Insurance Enrollment (We are an authorized Enrollment Entity for the State of California Covered CA and Medi-Cal)
- Support for Unhoused / Unsheltered
How it works
1. Families are referred to TLC by Downey Unified staff members.
2. TLC resource assistants provide guidance on various health and human services.
3. Families are screened and then matched with appropriate community programs.
Local partnerships
TLC has partnerships in the community to provide further assistance to those in need.
More than 50 agencies are dedicated to supporting our children and their families.
Support at every step
TLC Assistants are the bridge between families and these services. These assistants screen families for financial needs, ensure follow-up on referrals, and take the actions necessary to make progress toward goals.

Support services are provided to all families in need of help.
All health services offered at TLC are free to uninsured/underinsured students.
TLC Cares: a grief support program
Sessions are facilitated by a therapist. TLC Assistants coordinate and provide any necessary follow-up care.
