You may often hear about “enrolling” students and completing “registration” and wonder which applies to you.
Enrolling a student at Downey Unified only happens once. Registration happens every year because we must ensure that important information such as emergency contacts is updated.
So here is a question you should ask:
Are you new to Downey Unified or do you have a returning student?
New to Downey Unified
If you are a brand new student to the district, WELCOME!
Beginning the process is as simple as clicking the button below and following the steps for pre-enrollment, or apply for a permit if you reside outside of the DUSD attendance area.
After you are enrolled, you will have to complete the 2024–2025 registration beginning July 1, 2024, through the Parent Connect Portal.
Parent Connect login information will be sent to you via email.
Returning Students
If you have a returning student, you don’t need to enroll again but you DO need to fill out the registration information.
Beginning July 1, 2024, log on to your Parent Connect Portal to complete or update the registration process and forms for each student attending the 2024-2025 school year. These forms should be completed before the start of school on Wednesday, August 14, 2024.
Why do I need to do this every year?
Good question. It is important that your child’s school has your most current emergency contact information, health updates, agreements, and if your student is in TK-8th grade, your interest in the DFEO before or after school program. This is our way of ensuring we have the most up-to-date information.
How do I enroll in the DFEO before or after-school program?
Downey Unified, in partnership with our non-profit foundation, the Downey Foundation for Educational Opportunities (DFEO), runs before and after-school care. If you have a child in TK-8th grade, you will be asked during your online registration if you are interested in before and/or after-school care. You must renew your interest each year.
Important things to note:
- “YES” places your student on the interest list.
- Saying “YES” does not guarantee a place in before or after-school care programs. When/if your child is accepted into a DFEO program, you will receive an email with a DFEO program registration link.
- The before-school program is fee-based. If there is enough interest at a school to run a program, DFEO will contact you to register with them.
- After-school programs are run through a grant. The DFEO must abide by the rules of the grant. Space is limited, and while it is not first come, first served, the earlier you complete your Downey Unified registration, the better the chances of securing a spot.
