March is National Nutrition Month® and we’re recognizing this important month by sharing some nutrition tips and resources for our Downey Unified families!

National Nutrition Month®, created by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, acknowledges the importance of making nutritious food choices and developing healthy habits. This year’s theme is “Fuel for the Future.” We want all of our students to not only be fueled for the school day, but also learn how to make healthy food choices as they grow into adulthood.

To do so, there are some basic nutrition facts we all should remember, including that there are six essential nutrients our bodies need:

  • Carbohydrates
  • Fats
  • Protein
  • Vitamins
  • Minerals
  • Water

Some we need more often than others and how much of each we need changes based on our age and lifestyle. We have included some resources and tips below to help you understand and plan for your nutrition needs and those of your family members.
