Leap Linguists:
Where little linguists take big leaps
A Dual Language Start for Young Learners
Leap Linguists is an early education program designed to introduce young learners to dual language immersion in a thoughtful, developmentally appropriate way. The program provides a strong foundation in both English and Spanish while supporting students’ social, emotional, and academic growth during their earliest learning years.
Why Dual Language Immersion in Early Education Matters
Research shows that children who begin learning a second language at a young age gain long-term cognitive and academic benefits. Early dual language immersion supports:
Develops bilingual language skills
Supports cognitive and communication growth
Builds cultural understanding
Lays the foundation for future success
How the 50/50 Dual Language Model Works
Students in Leap Linguists learn through a balanced 50/50 instructional model, meaning they receive equal instruction in English and Spanish. Language exposure is introduced gradually and intentionally, allowing children to build understanding and confidence at their own pace. Instruction is delivered through engaging, hands-on learning experiences that support comprehension in both languages without overwhelming young learners.
This approach helps students develop early bilingual skills while strengthening problem-solving, memory, and communication abilities.
Continuing the Dual Language Journey
Leap Linguists provides a strong foundation in both languages and serves as the first step toward placement in Downey Unified’s G.L.A.D. dual immersion program.
