This week, starting October 26, our partner, Old Grove Orange, is bringing Granny Smith apples to our campuses! Just in time for Halloween with their bright green coloring, the apples are great sources of vitamin C, antioxidants, and fiber.
Did You Know?
- There was an actual “Granny” Smith! Maria Ann (Granny) Smith accidentally created the apple in 1868 in Australia, when the French crab apples she tossed on her property seeded and created the unique apple.
- Granny Smith apples are great for baking (mmm apple pie!) because their high acid levels help them keep their shape at high temperatures.
- There is a festival held in their honor every year in Australia!

Every week, Old Grove Orange selects one fruit to share and deliver to its partner school districts. We’ve loved working with them and watching our students get to experience new fruits every week! We look forward to seeing what’s next.
