Visual Impairment

Encouraging confidence in our students

Visual Impairment (VI)

A highly qualified teacher supports the learning of students who are visually impaired by providing them the necessary textbooks, materials and/or technology to access the curriculum. Also, VI teachers provide direct services to students to teach them the skills (e.g., Braille) to lead lives that are vocationally, personally and socially satisfying.

Orientation and Mobility Services (O&M)

A highly qualified O&M teacher provides services to students who are visually impaired to achieve the maximum safety and independence in mobility that is possible according to needs and capabilities. O&M develop skills that enable students to travel safely and independently in their environments/communities with proficiency and confidence.
