Last week, the classrooms at Griffiths Middle School were filled with energy as Warren High School seniors visited to share their firsthand experiences with the AVID program.
The visit served as a powerful mentorship moment, with the Warren seniors taking the lead to explain the program’s impact and encourage current 8th graders to consider applying. These high school leaders were truly impressive: knowledgeable about the AVID mission, remarkably articulate, and confident in sharing how the program has shaped their own academic journeys.
The interaction between the two groups was a highlight of the week, with 8th graders asking thoughtful, inquisitive questions that were met with clarity and enthusiasm by the seniors. It was a perfect example of the collaborative and supportive culture that defines the Downey Unified School District.
