Science
The science program at Griffiths Middle School is designed to engage and challenge students using an inquiry-based science curriculum aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).
Our science classes are integrated, which means the major scientific domains (earth, life, and physical science) along with engineering and human impact are taught in every grade level. The integrated model builds understanding in all three disciplines so that prior knowledge is connected to and applied in each subsequent year.
6th Grade
Cells and Body Systems, Weather and Climate, Genetics and Organism Adaptations, Human Impact on the Earth
7th Grade
Atoms and Chemical Reactions, Ecosystem Interactions, Earth Processes, Human Impact on the Earth
8th Grade
Forces and Motion, Fossils and Mass Extinction, Evolution and Natural Selection, Human Impact on the Earth
At the end of 8th grade, students will be assessed on all three years of their learning through the California Science Test (CAST), which is an online assessment based on NGSS.
