We are thrilled to announce that our Global Language Academies of Downey (G.L.A.D.) will expand to a new location – Unsworth Elementary School!
Beginning the 2025-26 school year, Unsworth Elementary will provide this dual-language program for all qualified Transitional Kindergarten (TK) and Kindergarten-aged students. This incredible program allows students to become bilingual and biliterate in English and Spanish, all while excelling academically and developing cultural competence.
In TK, students are exposed to a second language, facilitating the transition to our dual-immersion program starting in Kindergarten. Beginning in Kindergarten, students learn through a 90/10 model, where Spanish immersion gradually transitions to a balanced 50/50 approach by 4th grade.
Why consider dual immersion? Research shows that bilingualism enhances cognitive skills, improves academic performance, and opens doors to future career opportunities. Plus, students build confidence as they learn to communicate naturally in two languages!
