With approximately 550 students enrolled, AVID serves about 15 percent of the WHS student body. The program includes 20 AVID sections taught by 16 dedicated teachers who work collaboratively to support student success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>AVID is designed for students with academic potential who are motivated to attend a four-year college or university with the right support. Many students enter the program with average to high test scores and GPAs ranging from 2.0 to 3.5. These students demonstrate determination and perseverance and often meet one or more criteria, such as being the first in their family to attend college, coming from historically underserved populations, facing socio-economic challenges, or navigating special circumstances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Advancement Via Individual Determination, or AVID, is a college readiness program for students in grades seven through twelve. At Warren, students enroll in the AVID elective throughout their middle and high school years, where they develop critical academic skills while building confidence in a college-going mindset. The AVID elective supports students as they enroll in more rigorous coursework and teaches essential strategies such as effective note-taking, study skills, time management, writing, and research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/web.dusd.net\/warren\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/75\/2026\/04\/Warren-AVID-1-1024x576.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-19400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/web.dusd.net\/warren\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/75\/2026\/04\/Warren-AVID-1-980x551.png 980w, https:\/\/web.dusd.net\/warren\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/75\/2026\/04\/Warren-AVID-1-480x270.png 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) and (max-width: 980px) 980px, (min-width: 981px) 1024px, 100vw\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>AVID classes also include weekly tutorial sessions led by trained college students, providing academic support and strengthening critical thinking skills. Beyond the classroom, AVID students are exposed to college opportunities through guest speakers, scholarship information, campus visits, and guidance on college admission requirements. These experiences help make college accessible and attainable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students benefit from local college field trips in ninth and tenth grade, as well as a junior-year California road trip that visits seven universities and cultural landmarks. AVID students receive support with college applications and financial aid, participate in community service, and explore careers and potential majors. The Class of 2025 achieved a 98 percent A\u2013G pass rate, reflecting strong academic preparation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Warren AVID students consistently earn impressive scholarships, including two Gates Millennium Scholars with full tuition, room, and board; three Dell Scholars awarded between $20,000 and $25,000; and five Torch Scholars receiving full tuition and room and board to Northeastern University. Many additional students earned institutional scholarships covering full tuition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The program\u2019s outcomes are remarkable. In 2025, all 120 AVID seniors were accepted into a four-year university. Of those who applied, 97 percent were admitted to a UC and 99 percent were admitted to a CSU, underscoring the lasting impact of AVID at Warren High School.
