They were joined by their Unified teammates, Hailey Camacho, and Victoria Rios Quintero, also WHS students!!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"510\" height=\"288\" src=\"https:\/\/web.dusd.net\/warren\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/75\/2022\/06\/550x310px-featured-image.jpg\" alt=\"WHS students posing on a track at the Special Olympics\" class=\"wp-image-11704\" srcset=\"https:\/\/web.dusd.net\/warren\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/75\/2022\/06\/550x310px-featured-image.jpg 510w, https:\/\/web.dusd.net\/warren\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/75\/2022\/06\/550x310px-featured-image-480x271.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) 510px, 100vw\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The 2022 Special Olympics USA Games united more than 5,500 athletes and coaches from all 50 states and the Caribbean and there were close to 125,000 spectators. The games occur every 4 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our Unified teams consist of students with and without Intellectual Disabilities and all &#8220;pairs&#8221; are considered equal teammates. These student pairs were selected because of their dedication to Unified Sports and Teen Connection, since their freshman year. They have also been strong leaders in creating a more inclusive community at WHS and in their community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sammy Lara and Kate Gonzalez, both WHS students, also attended the USA Games as U.S. Youth Ambassadors for Special Olympics North America. Youth Ambassadors are a group of 24 youth leaders with and without Intellectual Disabilities who are striving to make the nation a more inclusive place for all.
