We\u2019re excited to share that Ward Elementary has been recognized by California PBIS with a Gold award! <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

PBIS stands for Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports. In simple terms, it means we teach, practice, and celebrate the positive behaviors that help our students learn and feel safe at school.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Here\u2019s what PBIS looks like on our campus:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n
  • Clear expectations: Students know what being respectful, responsible, and safe looks like in classrooms, hallways, and common areas.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Teaching and practice: Staff model routines and help students practice them, just like any other skill.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Positive recognition: We celebrate students when they meet expectations\u2014through shout-outs, notes home, and schoolwide recognition.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Extra help when needed: Some students benefit from additional check-ins or small-group support, and we provide that.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Continuous improvement: We regularly review how things are going and make changes to better support students.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    What this award means for families and students: <\/strong>Calmer classrooms, stronger relationships, more time spent learning, and a school where every child is safe, known, and included.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Districtwide milestone:<\/strong> This year, all Downey Unified schools<\/strong> earned CA PBIS recognition\u20144 Platinum, 2 Gold, 13 Silver, and 1 Bronze<\/strong>\u2014showing our shared commitment to safe, welcoming schools where every student can thrive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    This recognition is a team effort. Thank you to our students for showing leadership, to our staff for their daily care and consistency, and to our families for reinforcing our school values at home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
