This class provides a seamless transition into the high school CTE Culinary Arts program. Motivated and advanced students at the middle school level are also given the opportunity to prepare and pass the ServSafe Food Handlers Certificate, enabling them to accelerate into the 10th grade Culinary Arts program as a 9th grader.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Students also gain practical business management skills by preparing and selling restaurant quality food through their on-campus bakery at schoolwide event sales. Students study a film (action, comedy, horror and fantasy) and then create their own movie based on that genre! Many former students confess how these classes gave them a competitive edge in college and the job market. These classes focuses on learning how to be professional and to be a great team member. You can say that these classes prepare you for jobs that do not currently exist. Now that you are intrigued, here are some brief descriptions of the classes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Computer Science for Innovators and Makers<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Throughout the unit, students will learn about programming for the physical world by blending hardware design and software development, allowing students to discover computer science concepts and skills by creating personally relevant, tangible, and shareable projects.<\/p>\n<p><em>6th grade, semester long<\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Design and Modeling<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Students discover the design process and develop an understanding of the influence of creativity and innovation in their lives. They are then challenged and empowered to use and apply what they\u2019ve learned throughout the unit to design a therapeutic toy for a child who has cerebral palsy.<\/p>\n<p><em>7th and 8th grade, semester long<\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Green Architecture<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In this unit, students learn how to apply green concepts to the fields of architecture and construction. They explore dimensioning, measuring, and architectural sustainability and apply what they have learned to design affordable housing units using Autodesk\u2019s\u00ae 3D architectural design software.<\/p>\n<p><em>7th grade or 8th grade, semester long<\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Automation and Robotics<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Students learn about the history and impact of automation and robotics as they explore mechanical systems, energy transfer, machine automation, and computer control systems. Using the VEX Robotics\u00ae platform, students apply what they know to design and program traffic lights, robotic arms, and more.<\/p>\n<p><em>7th and 8th grade, year long<\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Competitive Robotics<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The VEX Robotics Competition, presented by the Robotics Education &amp; Competition Foundation, is the largest and fastest growing middle school and high school robotics program globally with more than 20,000 teams from 50 countries playing in over 1,700 competitions worldwide. Each year, an exciting engineering challenge is presented in the form of a game. Students, with guidance from their teachers and mentors, build innovative robots and compete year-round.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to learning valuable engineering skills, students gain life skills such as teamwork, perseverance, communication, collaboration, project management, and critical thinking.
