Stauffer Middle School has a proud tradition of excellence, and I am honored to join a community recognized as both an Apple Distinguished School and a California Schools to Watch campus. These distinctions reflect a school that is not only high-performing, but forward-thinking\u2014where innovation, strong instruction, and meaningful student experiences are part of everyday learning. What makes Stauffer special, however, goes beyond recognition. It is the collective commitment of our staff, students, and families to do what\u2019s best for kids and to continuously improve. Mr. Koenig started his career in education in 1999. He spent 7 years as an English teacher at La Mirada High School where he coached football and basketball and has been at Stauffer Middle School since 2006. While at Stauffer Mr. Koenig taught English 8 and was the Dean of Students for 10 years. Mr. Koenig has been happily married since 2001 and has a son (Nick) and a daughter (Gia). Outside of school, Mr. Koenig loves to spend quality time with his family. He also loves to travel, play pick up basketball, and root on his Fresno St. Bulldogs and San Francisco 49ers!!<\/p>\n

Mr. Schiavo is excited to return to Stauffer Middle School as Vice Principal! He began his Downey Unified career 15 years ago as an English and AVID Teacher at West (now Stauffer) Middle School. For the last 7 years, he has served as Assistant Principal and Dean of Students at Warren High School. He is passionate about creating meaningful, positive learning experiences for all students. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his two daughters, playing golf and pickleball, traveling, camping, and DJing. Go Spartans!<\/p>\n

Ms. Gavilanes is excited to join Stauffer Middle School as a School Counselor. She has six years of experience as a middle school counselor and is passionate about supporting students\u2019 academic, social-emotional, and personal growth. As a bilingual Spanish-speaking counselor, she values building strong relationships with students and families and creating an inclusive environment where all students feel supported and empowered to succeed. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her dog, running, hiking, traveling, and exploring new coffee shops. She is excited to be part of the Spartan family and looks forward to a great school year.<\/p>\n

This is Mr. Del Rio\u2019s 14<\/span>th<\/span> year at Stauffer as the 7<\/span>th<\/span> Grade Counselor, and he could not imagine being anywhere else. He grew up in Orange County and lives in Placentia with his wife, nephew and his two cats Pebbles and Piper. When he\u2019s not counseling, he enjoys barbecuing, playing the drums and golfing with his friends.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
