Preparing for the School Years<\/h2>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

If your child was part of the Early Start Program, as they reach the age of three, they will be assessed for next steps and, if a need is still present, will transition from an Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) to an Individualized Education Program (IEP)<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Children new to the program will take an assessment for eligibility for SELPA\u2019s preschool special education services (for children ages 3 to 5). The plan will follow them throughout their school<\/span><\/p>\n

How SELPA Helps<\/h2>\n

<\/strong><\/p>\n

Services provided to eligible preschoolers include language and speech services, individual and small group services, and extra adult support during their time in a preschool class.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Preschoolers may also qualify for occupational therapy, physical therapy, vision services, deaf\/hard of hearing services, and other assistive programs like transportation or health and nursing services. <\/span><\/p>\n

Common signs of disabilities in a child<\/h2>\n

It is important to keep in mind that children develop at different rates and in different ways. These differences may be related to temperament, personality, experiences, or health needs that affect their development.
