In simple terms, it means we teach, practice, and celebrate the positive behaviors that help our students learn and feel safe at school.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:25%\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-thumbnail\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" src=\"https:\/\/web.dusd.net\/oldriver\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/53\/2025\/09\/Old-River-Platinum_198-500px-150x150.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-15006\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Here\u2019s what PBIS looks like on our campus:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Clear expectations: Students know what being respectful, responsible, and safe looks like in classrooms, hallways, and common areas.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Teaching and practice: Staff model routines and help students practice them, just like any other skill.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Positive recognition: We celebrate students when they meet expectations\u2014through shout-outs, notes home, and schoolwide recognition.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Extra help when needed: Some students benefit from additional check-ins or small-group support, and we provide that.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Continuous improvement: We regularly review how things are going and make changes to better support students.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What this award means for families and students:&nbsp;<\/strong>Calmer classrooms, stronger relationships, more time spent learning, and a school where every child is safe, known, and included.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Districtwide milestone:<\/strong>&nbsp;This year,&nbsp;<strong>all Downey Unified schools<\/strong>&nbsp;earned CA PBIS recognition\u2014<strong>4 Platinum, 2 Gold, 13 Silver, and 1 Bronze<\/strong>\u2014showing our shared commitment to safe, welcoming schools where every student can thrive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This recognition is a team effort.
