{"id":14088,"date":"2023-05-08T00:07:36","date_gmt":"2023-05-08T07:07:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/web.dusd.net\/oldriver\/?p=14088"},"modified":"2023-04-26T00:10:51","modified_gmt":"2023-04-26T07:10:51","slug":"how-families-can-support-student-transition-to-middle-school-and-high-school","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/web.dusd.net\/oldriver\/2023\/05\/08\/how-families-can-support-student-transition-to-middle-school-and-high-school\/","title":{"rendered":"How Families Can Support Student Transition to Middle School and High School"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>All 5th and 8th grade families are invited to join us for one of two, hour-long webinars, presented by our Wellness Center Clinical School Therapists, on how to support their student(s) as they transition to the next step in their education, in either middle school or high school. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The webinar has a mental health component where parents and\/or guardians will learn about the typical anxiety related to &#8220;starting something new,&#8221; such as attending a brand new campus. The focus will be on ways that parents and guardians can help their students adjust to their new environment, expectations, and routines, and what supports are available at the middle school and high school <a href=\"http:\/\/web.dusd.net\/wellness-centers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Wellness Centers<\/a>.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The webinar will also address the known risk factors and &#8220;red flags&#8221; to look out for and identify when a student\u2019s anxiety is pervasive and outside of the typical reaction to the adjustment of starting a brand new school and how to seek support. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Families of Downey Unified 5th and 8th graders will be provided with a zoom link as the date of their respective webinar approaches.
