Welcome to Downey High School\u2019s Athletic Program. It is extremely exciting and rewarding to have your student-athlete be part of our program. Being active with athletics is important because lessons learned through participation in athletics will assist students in their preparation for life after high school.<\/p>\n

By participating in athletics, students will learn cooperation, respect, sportsmanship, hard work, and commitment to others. Since participation in athletics is voluntary, a student-athlete\u2019s participation is a privilege. As a privilege, student-athletes are held accountable academically and behaviorally and are expected to conduct themselves in a way that promotes a positive image of our school, our community, and themselves. How to Join a Sport<\/h2>\n

In order to participate in an extracurricular sport, all students must receive athletic clearance. Students must also submit the Physical Evaluation Form, Athletic Clearance Form, and Extra-Curricular Waiver. Parents are also highly encouraged to purchase extra accident and injury insurance for their child, as DUSD does not provide insurance coverage.<\/p>\n
