The California Jr. Scholarship Federation (CJSF)<\/span><\/h2>\n

What is CJSF?<\/strong><\/h4>\n

CJSF is an academic organization at Doty Middle School. Our chapter coordinates its guidelines with the California Scholastic Federation<\/a>. It is an organization that rewards scholarship and service. The purpose of CJSF is to foster high standards of scholarship, service, and citizenship on the part of California\u2019s public and private middle school students.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n

The California Junior Scholarship Federation, Inc. is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to recognize and encourage academic achievement and community service among students in California.<\/span><\/p>\n

Our sixth-graders are not eligible as official CJSF requirements begin in seventh grade and continue through middle school into high school as CSF. This program is unique in that students must earn the grades to qualify, and they must join every semester. Membership is not automatic<\/strong>, and every year at Doty we have over 100 students join CJSF. Our three-semester scholars have qualified and joined every semester that they have been able to do so as a student at Doty. In addition to joining CJSF, the students are asked to be active in their school community. It is mandatory to do service hours on and off-campus in order to qualify.<\/span><\/p>\n

You may qualify if you meet the following requirements:<\/span><\/p>\n

  1. <\/span><\/i>CJSF begins to recognize members in 7th grade using their first 7th-grade report card (January).\u00a0 Students have three semesters to be members:<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Spring of 7th grade<\/span><\/p>\n

    Fall of 8th grade<\/span><\/p>\n

    Spring of 8th grade<\/span><\/p>\n

    *6th graders are not eligible per official CJSF criteria.<\/span><\/p>\n

      \n
    1. If you have at least 8 academic points.<\/span><\/li>\n
    2. If you do not have a 4 or 5 in citizenship.<\/span><\/li>\n
    3. If you do not have a D or F in any subject (including electives).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Only academic courses are counted: English, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. Electives, PE, cross-age tutors, or office service does not count toward the academic point total. Letter grades in the above 4 academic courses are worth the following:<\/span><\/p>\n

      • A grade of \u201cA\u201d 3 points\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/li>\n
      • A grade of \u201cB\u201d 1 point\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
      • A grade of \u201cC\u201d 0 points\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
      • A grade of \u201cD\u201d or \u201cF\u201d will eliminate you from eligibility<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        At the beginning of each semester, the CJSF advisors make announcements on DTV announcing deadlines and explaining CJSF criteria and expectations. Applications are made available and must be completed by the student in order to be considered for CJSF. After qualifying grades and citizenship marks are confirmed, students receive a community service form. A total of six hours of on and off-campus service is required for membership.<\/span><\/p>\n

        CJSF students receive an award certificate and recognition at Honors Night. Eighth-grade students with three semesters of CJSF service also receive a gold cord to wear at promotion.<\/span><\/p>\n

        What is Scholarship Club?<\/strong><\/h4>\n

        At Doty Middle School, we reward and recognize our students with excellent academic achievement and behavior with three levels of distinction: Renaissance, Honor Roll, and Scholarship.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

        Membership in the Scholarship Club<\/strong> each semester is based on semester grades and includes standards for both GPA and behavior. Each spring, Doty Middle School honors these distinguished students at our annual Honors Night. Doty\u2019s 4.0 students are also honored with the President\u2019s Award for Academic Excellence.<\/p>\n

        Who is Eligible?<\/strong><\/h4>\n

        6th grade students<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>must have at least 11 points in their five core classes (Math, Reading Language Arts, English Language Arts, Social Studies, and Science) with 3 points given for an A and 1 point for a B. They may not have any C\u2019s, D\u2019s, F\u2019s, N\u2019s, or U\u2019s in those core classes. They may not have any D\u2019s, F\u2019s, N\u2019s, or U\u2019s in other classes and no 4\u2019s or 5\u2019s in citizenship. All students will be honored each semester.\u00a0<\/p>\n

        7th & 8th-grade students<\/strong>\u00a0must have at least 10 points in their four core classes (Math, Language Arts, Social Studies, and Science) with 3 points given for an A and 1 point for a B. They may not have any D\u2019s, F\u2019s, N\u2019s, or U\u2019s and no 4\u2019s or 5\u2019s in citizenship.<\/span><\/p>\n
