Dear Downey Unified Families, (sent to families on 6/30/2020)
I want to start by saying that I hope this message finds your family well and enjoying summer to the extent possible during this unprecedented time. As shared in my last update, we were expecting the LA County Department of Public Health to publish their health directives for the return to school last week; unfortunately, these guidelines have still not been released. That being said, we feel for the 2020-21 school year we have sufficient information necessary to project what our return to school would look like.
As of now, because of social distancing limitations, we would only have two models for our families when we return in August. Based on these limitations, a five-day per week return to school for all students is not a viable option.
The first choice is a Hybrid model, which is being proposed to have students return to school in-person for two days a week and then participate in Distance Learning for the remainder of the week. The second choice, for those families who have health related concerns and/or other concerns related to an in-person return to school for their children, will be a Full Time Distance Learning model. This model will include a robust curriculum that parallels learning objectives the Hybrid model would provide to students.
We are hopeful that the LA County Department of Public Health will publish their health directives for schools soon. Either way, we will be sending out a much more detailed and descriptive parent survey next week to again collect your input.
As things frequently change and we are in a time when it seems that there are more questions than answers, I want our families to know that we will keep you updated as new information becomes available. As I have stated since we first transitioned to Distance Learning in March, I thank each of you for your patience and understanding during this unprecedented time.

Dicho esto, creemos que para el año escolar 2020-21 tenemos suficiente información necesaria para proyectar cómo sería nuestro regreso a la escuela.
