On Tuesday May 17, 2016, Downey Unified’s Board of Education honored the Old River Elementary School staff with the Shared Values Award in the area of Positive School Culture for providing support and assistance to students and families of the Downey Unified School District. Downey High School Custodial Staff
With a combined total of approximately 215 years working in Downey Unified, the Downey High School custodial staff was recognized by the Board of Education on Tuesday, March 8, 2016, for their dedication and commitment to providing a learning environment that promotes high performance within the school community. Presented with the Shared Values award in the area of Clean and Safe Schools, this group of dedicated individuals include: Abner Carrera, Reymundo Corrales, Marco Estrada, Monica Flores, Efren Garcia, Harvey Gunkle, Jose Leal, Ana Mendez, Shawn Orsinger, Steven Stepp, Roman Torres, Moises Velazquez, Edmundo Vizcaino, Christopher Williams and Mercedes Zapata. Greg Ruiz
A Downey Unified employee since 1994, Greg Ruiz was recognized by the Board of Education on Tuesday, March 8, 2016, for his distinguished service and commitment to providing a learning environment that promotes high performance within the school community. Presented with the Shared Values award in the area of Clean and Safe Schools, Mr. Ruiz has been at Columbus High School and the Downey Adult School since 2010 and has been a vital contribution of creating a positive school culture on both campuses.
