With that, effective March 1, 2023, our district will continue to move forward in a manner that will keep all our students, staff and families safe as well as stay in complaince with any local, county or state regulations related to COVID-19.

Are face masks required on campus?

Masks are not required on any school campus and at the district office; however, we respect the choice of anyone who wishes ot wear a mask.

What does a higher-grade surgical mask mean?

Only a suggestion for students to wear these higher grade masks at this time, please click here to read more about the details of higher-grade surgical masks.

Can my student have a desk shield?

Yes. Please let your child’s teacher know you would like a desk shield made available for your child.

What if my student travels outside the state or country?

Please see the travel advisoryand guidance per the County of Los Angeles Department of Public Health. Please click the link above or contact your school nurse if you have any questions.

Is there still a daily COVID Screener for students?

No. Beginning this new school year, 2022-23, the Daily COVID Screener has been put on hold; however, it can be reinstated at any time, so please make sure your contact information is up to date to ensure you recieve the latest updates from the district and your child’s school.

Downey Unified is committed to continuing learning for all students. We understand that not all families have access to high speed Internet access at home at this time. Below are resources for families to obtain low cost Internet access.

Free Wi-Fi Access through the Downey City Library

Virtual Library sites throughout the City of Downey provide free access to the internet. All you need is your Downey City Library card and PIN. Visit https://www.downeylibrary.org/freewifi

Low-cost Internet and Assistance:

EveryoneOn works with a wide range of Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and device providers to bring low-cost internet service and affordable devices to those who need it.

If you qualify for the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) EveryoneOn will provide you with enrollment assistance to provide information about all available low-cost Internet offers and help you navigate through the application process from start to finish.

You may qualify for affordable home internet if you are participating in one of the following programs:

  • National School Lunch Program (NSLP)
  • Supplemental Security Income (for applicants age 65+ only)
  • Medi-cal
  • Have a household income under $40,000/year
